Ann Coulter on the Cartoon violence.

Posted in Other Media, Politics (Opinion), Religion, Religion, Religion in Politics, Society/Culture on February 9th, 2006 by zedlappy

So she wrote a wonderfully insightful and truthful piece on this whole Muhammad cartoon things. Oh wait. No, the opposite.

And people thing she is clever?

aaarghh

Among the gems.

In order to express their displeasure with the idea that Muslims are violent, thousands of Muslims around the world engaged in rioting, arson, mob savagery, flag-burning, murder and mayhem, among other peaceful acts of nonviolence.

Muslims are the only people who make feminists seem laid-back.

Wait she just contradicted herself in the same article

Largely unnoticed in this spectacle is the blinding fact that one nation is missing from the long list of Muslim countries (by which I mean France and England) with hundreds of crazy Muslims experiencing bipolar rage over some cartoons: Iraq. Hey — maybe this democracy thing does work! The barbaric behavior of Europe’s Muslims suggests that the European welfare state may not be attracting your top-notch Muslims.

Maybe Iraq has been quiet because all their crazies have been too busy blowing up american soldiers to merely riot and burn down a few embassies. They have better things to protest.

And also way to be bigoted. Lets classify all Muslims as Arabs because they are the same. Just like all white people are americans and everyone with narrow eyes is chinese etc. etc. Hey Ann … Culture and Religion are two different things.

But apparently the Quran is like the Constitution: It’s a “living document,” capable of sprouting all-new provisions at will. Muslims ought to start claiming the Quran also prohibits indoor plumbing, to explain their lack of it.

.

.

Protestants don’t make a peep about other people eating food off one another’s plates. (Just stay away from our plates — that’s disgusting.)

Also lets take a closer look at this gem

Catholics aren’t short on rules, but they couldn’t care less if non-Catholics use birth control.

Maybe some catholics do not care but Geroge W Bush(not a catholic) is very interested in your reproductive freedom. How about a mention about all those millions of aid money going to only to  Catholic/Religious organizations who provide Abstinence Only AIDS prevention programs in Africa. Oh things like the FDA bottling up the morning after pill? hmmmm

And lets not get too holier than thou here. Your friends on the extreme right wing are the ones blowing abortion clinics, gay bars, taking sniper rifles to abortion doctors …. Lets not have two standards here. One will do just fine. Keyword … Fundamentalists everywhere are making the world a lot more interesting for the rest of us.

This is why MSNBC is an enemy to America.

Should’ve fired the bitch

The Times finally got rid of Judith Miller. One can only imagine that they took it in the ass, as she was so notable that only a huge severance package would shut her the fuck up. She may have worked at the Times for 28 years, but Miller is a stain on the once reliable (and well-managed) paper of record. Her time in jail was a sham, if only she had gone for being part of a larger conspiracy to sell the war.

I don’t have anything profound to say, I rarely do, all I know is that she sucks and she’s ugly, really ugly.

It’s probably just a matter of time before she shows up as a Senior Political Anal-yst on Faux News (post Greta van Susteren-style face repair), she’ll be on the left-side of course, to maintain the Fair and Balanced approach to news at the venerable cable channel.

Don’t you dare denigrate.

I know for some of you it’s difficult to watch Bill O’Reilly, but this is a good one.

Phil Donahue, who’s generally a clown, gives Billy a taste of his own medicine.

Video here.

Speaking of idiotic talking heads

Posted in How Odd..., Mainstream Media, Other Media on September 9th, 2005 by zedlappy

I don’t know if I have mentioned this before but what annoys me more than all the right wing nuts out there is the saturation of popular media with these right wing nuts. These are the guys responsible for electing Bush and justifying every bone headed thing he does. So I started reading the bios of 2 of my favorite talking heads:
Sean Hannity and Grand Wizard Limbaugh. Turns out that both of them dropped out of college to get jobs in radio.

Limbaugh: Attended Southeast Missouri State University for one year before dropping out.
Hannity: Attended NYU for one year before dropping out.

So lets compare with 2 on the left(the only 2?)
Al Franken: Graduated from Harvard
Jon Stewart: Graduated from the College of William and Mary

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat Racist and other truths

Posted in How Odd..., Mainstream Media, Opinion, Other Media, Society/Culture on September 9th, 2005 by zedlappy

As if we needed more evidence that Rush Limbaugh is at least as bigoted David Duke here comes this gem courtesy of Crooksandliars.

Mayor Nayger

Apparently its funny to call the Mayor of New Orleans: Ray Nagin Mayor Nayger. Now if he did on purpose then its just an extremely racist joke. Now this is what I believe after listening to the clip: that was a freudian slip and in Limbaugh’s mind the black mayor of New Orleans is just another nayger.

Want more words of wisdom from the Grand Wizard?

African Americans

I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.[3/14/03]

Now this just blows me away

Was there any excrement, any shamelessness in any form, above all in cultural life, in which at least one African-American would not have been involved? As soon as one even carefully cut into such an abscess, one found, like maggots in a decaying body, often blinded by the sudden light, an African-American. [2/21/03]

James Earl Ray is the man who killed Martin Luther King Jr.

You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed. [4/23/98]

Arabs

As I said yesterday, truce is an old Arabic word. Goes way, way back in Islamic-Arabic culture, and it means, “We will get you later.” [4/16/04]

Here is a small collection of his Quotes

Lets take them out.

Posted in Other Media, Politics (Opinion) on September 1st, 2005 by zedlappy

I say we have our special forces start taking some of these people out. I don’t mean assassinate, just take them out. Feel free to add to this list:

Pat Robertson
Jerry Falwell
Sean Hannity
Michelle Malkin
Joe Scarborough
Rick Santorum
G. Gordon Liddy
Rush Limbaugh
Edit:
I don’t know how I forgot
Bill O’Reilly

I say we save this list just for the cream of the crop with special preference for loudmouths and talking heads.

BTW a great article on the goings on at FOX: Green Room Confessions

Costello Rocks

I couldn’t have quoted my fears any better.

“I have looked forward to living in the true value of this country for the last 25 years, and it is an ideal we give up at our peril,” he continues. “Everything that I have ever loved about America is rapidly being eroded — the unspoiled vastness, that, at its best, can absorb such cultural, religious and regional diversity, and the basic decency — when it isn’t tainted by one or other corruption of a belief inspired by a government intent on establishing some freakish hybrid: a spin-controlled theocracy.

Here is the link about Elvis Costello adding some anti-war lyrics to his song. Maybe I’ll go out tonite and buy one of his albums.

I hate Libertarians.

Posted in Other Media, Society/Culture on August 10th, 2005 by DoubleMan

We all know John Stossel is a complete fucktard, but he proved it again recently. In the piece of garbage Manchester Union Leader, big surprise. Stossel wants to cut all funding to PBS, claiming that the channel can easily survive in the Market and shouldnt be given special treatment by the government.

I think that’s bullshit. Mostly because it annoys me that Libertarians like Stossel focus their attention on shit like PBS rather than attacking actual problems with government spending. Military waste, for example. I don’t know the actual numbers, but I bet that one can document that the money wasted by Halliburton or Bechtel or whoever else is MUCH more than the annual allocation to PBS. Or another topic of wasted taxpayer dollars dear to my heart, spending on Abstinence Only education, both here and abroad. PBS is the problem though….

I want PBS fully funded and available because it’s so often a respite from the trash on the networks and cable, although FX now has some fantastic primetime shows. The networks are absolute trash for the most part, I don’t care how much advertising revenue they get or how much people claim to love their programming. I mean can anyone really stomach Everybody Loves Raymond or the King of Queens or do they just watch these shows “because they are on”? Seinfeld is still the only great sitcome on the big three networks since the Cosby Show.

Stossel writes:

If there’s a demand for opera or BBC drama, the market will provide it.

A few comments for John. First, they don’t show opera on PBS as regularly as you would hope for your argument to appeal to the residents of New Hampshire or whichever other flyover state paper you got this column published in. Second, read some more economics. The market doesn’t always provide for everything that is demanded, such as public goods, like schools and roads. And, the market provides for plenty that isn’t demanded, like externalities, you’ve heard about pollution, right? And if people don’t have perfect information, like they should in a perfect market system, they can’t demand certain things because they don’t know they exist. Third, Americans are stupid and easily manipulated. The flashy promos (not to mention the desires to fit in) draw people in and they can’t help but watch the programs the ad executives want them to watch. I’m not above it either, I’m addicted to MTV’s Laguna Beach and I don’t know why. So, to sum up, markets don’t always work and it might be naive to assume that demand for a particular product is actually a reflection of an individual’s utility derived from that product.

Is it just me or does it seem that the Right is made up almost entirely of fanatics? Religious freaks who have a blind and unyielding faith in God and secular types who have a similar faith in the Market. Oh yeah, and a bunch of ignorant douchebags who can’t think for themselves. So maybe the Right isn’t entirely fanatical.

Who’s listening?

Posted in News, Other Media on July 21st, 2005 by DoubleMan

According to new data, Rush Limbaugh is far and away the biggest force in talk radio, big surprise.

Maybe I don’t understand these results, but it seems to me that almost 2/3 of Rush’s audience is either 12-25 or older than 54, and more than 75% of O’Reilly’s audience is 12-25 or over 54.

Compare that to Al Franken and Ed Shultz, with more than 40% of both audiences being 25-54. Full disclosure: I hate both of their shows. Shultz is a yeller and not particularly bright, but he’s a good counterpart to Rush because they are so similar in how they talk. Franken’s humor is so hokey, and even though he is outrageously well-informed, his jokes are mind-numbingly boring.

This post has no point other than to show that it’s old people primarily listening to right-wing talk, which is a good thing. It may take years, but as the right-wing listeners slowly drop off, the type of shows they listened to might follow them.
