Ann Coulter on the Cartoon violence.

Posted in Other Media, Politics (Opinion), Religion, Religion, Religion in Politics, Society/Culture on February 9th, 2006 by zedlappy

So she wrote a wonderfully insightful and truthful piece on this whole Muhammad cartoon things. Oh wait. No, the opposite.

And people thing she is clever?

aaarghh

Among the gems.

In order to express their displeasure with the idea that Muslims are violent, thousands of Muslims around the world engaged in rioting, arson, mob savagery, flag-burning, murder and mayhem, among other peaceful acts of nonviolence.

Muslims are the only people who make feminists seem laid-back.

Wait she just contradicted herself in the same article

Largely unnoticed in this spectacle is the blinding fact that one nation is missing from the long list of Muslim countries (by which I mean France and England) with hundreds of crazy Muslims experiencing bipolar rage over some cartoons: Iraq. Hey — maybe this democracy thing does work! The barbaric behavior of Europe’s Muslims suggests that the European welfare state may not be attracting your top-notch Muslims.

Maybe Iraq has been quiet because all their crazies have been too busy blowing up american soldiers to merely riot and burn down a few embassies. They have better things to protest.

And also way to be bigoted. Lets classify all Muslims as Arabs because they are the same. Just like all white people are americans and everyone with narrow eyes is chinese etc. etc. Hey Ann … Culture and Religion are two different things.

But apparently the Quran is like the Constitution: It’s a “living document,” capable of sprouting all-new provisions at will. Muslims ought to start claiming the Quran also prohibits indoor plumbing, to explain their lack of it.

.

.

Protestants don’t make a peep about other people eating food off one another’s plates. (Just stay away from our plates — that’s disgusting.)

Also lets take a closer look at this gem

Catholics aren’t short on rules, but they couldn’t care less if non-Catholics use birth control.

Maybe some catholics do not care but Geroge W Bush(not a catholic) is very interested in your reproductive freedom. How about a mention about all those millions of aid money going to only to  Catholic/Religious organizations who provide Abstinence Only AIDS prevention programs in Africa. Oh things like the FDA bottling up the morning after pill? hmmmm

And lets not get too holier than thou here. Your friends on the extreme right wing are the ones blowing abortion clinics, gay bars, taking sniper rifles to abortion doctors …. Lets not have two standards here. One will do just fine. Keyword … Fundamentalists everywhere are making the world a lot more interesting for the rest of us.

Seriously, Kill Me Now

To add to the recent SCOTUS ruling giving people more control over their bodies, the SJC added another blow to the right-to-life camp.

The Fag-loving court decided that the state could remove from life support a young girl beaten into a coma, and most likely a permanent vegetative state, by her parents. The stepfather wanted to become her guardian and keep her alive because he may face murder charges after she dies, but the SJC said “fuck you” to that guy.

The story is sad and unfortunate as is, but yesterday it took an unfortunate turn into Terri Shiavo-like realms. Apparently the girl is “responding to stimuli.” I’m hopeful that this will start a frenzy of activity in Western MA, with lunatics from all over coming to “pray” and fight for the girl’s right to live.

Let the idiocy commence.

I’m going to plan my trip soon. I’m really excited to get back to the Happy Valley, especially after finding out that Rachel Maddow lives in Cummington.

Kill me now

I like physician-assisted suicide, in fact, I think it’s pretty awesome. We should get past the abortion fight and make this the new pro-choice v. pro-life fight.

SCOTUS denied Ashcroft’s attempts to block the Oregon law.

In a stinging defeat for the administration, the justices upheld a U.S. appeals court ruling that Ashcroft’s directive was unlawful and unenforceable, and that he had overstepped his authority.

There’s a bunch of commies working at Reuters.

The decision was 6-3.

Scalia, Thomas, and Roberts dissented—-I see how it’s going to be from now on.

Sheryl Swoopes comes out

Posted in Gay Rights, News, Society/Culture on October 27th, 2005 by zedlappy

I would say that this is the biggest story in Sports this year. The biggest star of a sport just came out of the closet. Jus the second time in sports that this has happenned (see martina navratilova). The WNBA isn’t the biggest sport but it is popular enough and enough people know about Sheryl Swoopes that it should have a positive impact on society. Since Sports is all about the $$ I would really be interested to know if 1. She gets endorsements etc, 2. The WNBA will continue to market her, 3. What the backlash is. Two great articles in ESPN:

Swoopes and business

Bush vs. Gore Redux

Posted in Bush Alert!, Mainstream Media, Politics (Opinion), Society/Culture on October 6th, 2005 by Pants Of Time

Bush:

Abu Mazen, Palestinian Prime Minister, and Nabil Shaath, his Foreign Minister, describe their first meeting with President Bush in June 2003.

Nabil Shaath says: “President Bush said to all of us: ‘I’m driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, “George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.” And I did, and then God would tell me, “George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq …” And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, “Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.” And by God I’m gonna do it.’”

Abu Mazen was at the same meeting and recounts how President Bush told him: “I have a moral and religious obligation. So I will get you a Palestinian state.”

Gore:

I thought maybe it was an aberration when three-quarters of Americans said they believed that Saddam Hussein was responsible for attacking us on September 11, 2001. But more than four years later, between a third and a half still believe Saddam was personally responsible for planning and supporting the attack.

At first I thought the exhaustive, non-stop coverage of the O.J. trial was just an unfortunate excess that marked an unwelcome departure from the normal good sense and judgment of our television news media. But now we know that it was merely an early example of a new pattern of serial obsessions that periodically take over the airwaves for weeks at a time.

Are we still routinely torturing helpless prisoners, and if so, does it feel right that we as American citizens are not outraged by the practice? And does it feel right to have no ongoing discussion of whether or not this abhorrent, medieval behavior is being carried out in the name of the American people? If the gap between rich and poor is widening steadily and economic stress is mounting for low-income families, why do we seem increasingly apathetic and lethargic in our role as citizens?

On the eve of the nation’s decision to invade Iraq, our longest serving senator, Robert Byrd of West Virginia, stood on the Senate floor asked: “Why is this chamber empty? Why are these halls silent?”

The decision that was then being considered by the Senate with virtually no meaningful debate turned out to be a fateful one. A few days ago, the former head of the National Security Agency, Retired Lt. General William Odom, said, “The invasion of Iraq, I believe, will turn out to be the greatest strategic disaster in U.S. history.”

Who would you rather have as president?

How the fuck does this happen?

Not even close.

I recently came to the conclusion that I’m completely against Gay marriage. I think it’s vile and disgusting and will destroy civilization…

Apparently, the Massachusetts legislature disagrees. They voted against moving forward on the proposed amendment that would outlaw gay marriage but allow for civil unions, defeating it 157-39. The progressives voted against it because they don’t hate gays, the conservatives in the State House voted against it too, for other reasons. Anti-gay marriage proponents want to focus their energy on an amendment initiative that will outlaw gay marriage and civil unions. Attorney General Tom Reilly recently gave the initiative the green light.

I think all marriage, including homosexual marriage, should be abolished. Leave marriage to the churches and synagogues; the state should concern itself with civil unions. Any two consenting adults should be allowed to enter into a civil union, and get all the rights and privileges currently bestowed on the married, regardless of their sexual orientation.

I would miss all the anti-Gay mathematicians protesting gay marriage if we got rid of marriage altogether.

Fag sex = 9/11

Where would I learn stuff like that?

Rush Limbaugh is a big fat Racist and other truths

Posted in How Odd..., Mainstream Media, Opinion, Other Media, Society/Culture on September 9th, 2005 by zedlappy

As if we needed more evidence that Rush Limbaugh is at least as bigoted David Duke here comes this gem courtesy of Crooksandliars.

Mayor Nayger

Apparently its funny to call the Mayor of New Orleans: Ray Nagin Mayor Nayger. Now if he did on purpose then its just an extremely racist joke. Now this is what I believe after listening to the clip: that was a freudian slip and in Limbaugh’s mind the black mayor of New Orleans is just another nayger.

Want more words of wisdom from the Grand Wizard?

African Americans

I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.[3/14/03]

Now this just blows me away

Was there any excrement, any shamelessness in any form, above all in cultural life, in which at least one African-American would not have been involved? As soon as one even carefully cut into such an abscess, one found, like maggots in a decaying body, often blinded by the sudden light, an African-American. [2/21/03]

James Earl Ray is the man who killed Martin Luther King Jr.

You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed. [4/23/98]

Arabs

As I said yesterday, truce is an old Arabic word. Goes way, way back in Islamic-Arabic culture, and it means, “We will get you later.” [4/16/04]

A measured response from the Right:

OK, this is the fucking last straw. The camel’s back is now officially broken.

They use the present tense, even though the event in question happened in 1982.

Kill those fucking kiddie diddling ACLU scumbags, execute every last motherfucking one of them, pull out their guts and strangle them with them, piss on their corpses, pour gasoline on them and set them on fire.

Protecting child pornographers now, are we?

That’s it, ACLU, you have now officially left the human race and you had damn well better not ever show up in my immediate vicinity or I will fucking kill you in the most excruciatingly painful way that I can think of and I’ve got a pretty creative imagination, just in case you were wondering.

Burn, motherfuckers, BURN!

That reminds me, I think it’s time to renew my ACLU membership.

Do people really think that because the ACLU provides a damn amicus brief in support of one group’s LEGAL argument, that they support the actions and views of that group? Those on the Right do, once again showing that they can’t comprehend too much. Small minds = Small ideas.

UPDATE: Those on the Right love to play with words, trying to show off how dumb they are. For example, there are these nicknames for the ACLU:

AIDS-infected Cunt-Lickers Union
Ass Crack Lickers’ Union
Anti-American Crap Lickers Union
Anti-theist Criminal Lewdfucker Union

Why don’t they mess with ‘Union’?

The faux outrage is hilarious.

Costello Rocks

Posted in Iraq, Other Media, Society/Culture, The War in Iraq on August 15th, 2005 by zedlappy

I couldn’t have quoted my fears any better.

“I have looked forward to living in the true value of this country for the last 25 years, and it is an ideal we give up at our peril,” he continues. “Everything that I have ever loved about America is rapidly being eroded — the unspoiled vastness, that, at its best, can absorb such cultural, religious and regional diversity, and the basic decency — when it isn’t tainted by one or other corruption of a belief inspired by a government intent on establishing some freakish hybrid: a spin-controlled theocracy.

Here is the link about Elvis Costello adding some anti-war lyrics to his song. Maybe I’ll go out tonite and buy one of his albums.
